Contact

This is confusing, I seem to have collected too many addresses. It works like this:

  • vext01 (at) gmail dot com - For personal email.
  • eddbarrett (at) googlemail dot com - Is an address I occasionally use for more formal personal mail.
  • e.barrett (at) kent dot ac dot uk - For academic stuff.
  • eb771 (at) kent dot ac dot uk - Another academic address.
  • edd (at) openbsd dot org - For OpenBSD related stuff.

About Me

My name is Edd and I am a PhD student at University of Kent. My area of research is “Reverse engineering native code in the interest of security”.

I did my undergraduate course at Bournemouth University, where I achieved a 1st class BSc Hons Computing degree. My dissertation project was a JIT compiler using LLVM and python.

In my spare time I am an OpenBSD developer. Currently I provide OpenBSD with it's LaTeX and MPlayer support, amongst other bits and bobs.

Memberships include:

  • Programming Languages and System Research Group @ University of Kent.
  • TeX User Group (UK)
  • IEEE
  • Bournemouth University UNIX User Group (founder).

I have a keen interest in odd sounding/progressive/death metal (that's music!), as well as in down-tempo electronic music. From 'Decapitated' to 'Massive Attack'. I also love going to festivals. I have been to Download Festival and Reading Festival many times, and I work as a steward or on the task force at a few of folk festivals each year.

I also like a good ale with friends at the pub. Cheers!

As of Lately

  • Crunching boolean logic on my whiteboard.
  • Snow!
  • Reading Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.
  • Slacking on teeworlds :)
